Our Research Opportunities
Coventry University's research strategy is underpinned by a £250m investment in research, our estate and facilities. It also:
- enables our academics to apply fresh and original approaches to key research challenges
- informs their teaching
- provides opportunities for postgraduate students to participate in major research projects.
We currently offer a variety of PhD studentships to outstanding applicants, to areas of research undertaken by our Research Centres and our industrial collaborations.
To find a PhD for you, search by topic/subject in the bar below or filter by research area/centre on the available drop-down box.
Reliable power conversion through condition monitoring of power semiconductors and electronics
Power Electronics Converters are exceptionally important in systems that operate in changeable, isolated, challenging environments or where the degradation of operation can potentially be life threatening. Practical examples of scenarios which would benefit from the integration of Condition Monitoring include; offshore wind turbines, aerospace power supplies, traction drives and electric vehicles.
Systems Theory Approach in Engineering Resilient Plants for Environmental Sustainability
When plants are stressed, at the molecular level, their complex network of genetic components are altered, resulting in suboptimal biological functions. From the viewpoint of control engineering, stress response mechanism can be naturally formulated as a disturbance rejection problem and the goal is to utilise the systems theory components (e.g. network science, systems biology, control theory) to develop tools for designing synthetic genetic controller to improve stress responses mechanism in plant. Student will carried out analyses include network modelling, theoretical analysis, control design and simulation that seek to engineering resilient plants under stress.
