Cameron Chalmers, first year Management and Leadership BA (Hons) student, won three highly sort after awards at the annual Coventry University Students' Union (CUSU) Awards.

Cameron’s awards included:

  • Campaign of the Year
  • Outstanding Contribution to Student Leader
  • CUSC Student of the Year

Cameron has become the first student from Coventry University College to receive the top award, CUSU Student of the Year.

The awards ceremony was hosted at the Coventry Transport Museum with more than 200 attendees at the event. The aim of the annual awards was to highlight the achievements, hard work and success of CU/CUC students. The ceremony also aimed to reward the students who make time to ensure Coventry University Students' Union is one of the best in the country.

Award nominees for the CUSU Awards event were originally submitted by students before they were evaluated and selected by a panel. The panel consisted of Sabbatical Officers, CUSU staff and selected students, all of whom took part to determine the winners of each award.

Cameron, delighted with the recognition he received commented:

It was truly awesome. I’m so happy, it feels like a real honour to win these awards, especially the LGBTQIA+ which is something I’m really passionate about. One of the main reasons I was campaigning at the CUSU was so students could feel more comfortable during their time at University, something which I hope I’ve achieved.

Cameron went on to discuss how his time at Coventry University College helped him win the awards:

Some credit has to go to my tutors, they’ve been a great help during my first year. I’ve found them to be understanding, honest and really supportive.
