How to Find Accommodation During Clearing

Here’s all the info you need on how to apply for accommodation if you’re facing Clearing this year.

One of the most exciting parts of going to university is moving out of home. It’s usually the first real taste of freedom you’ll experience, and yep, even the less glamourous parts like doing the supermarket shop are deliriously thrilling when you start out!

What happens if I find myself in Clearing?

You’ve probably already applied for both student finance and your accommodation, right? But if Results Day doesn’t quite go to plan and you change your course choice through Clearing, it’s important you let student finance know the new course details and start thinking about your accommodation too.

Hall accommodation still available

We have hall accommodation still available. These will be placed on a first come first served basis upon confirmation of your place and submission of an accommodation application online. In addition to University halls (owned by the University and by private providers) there are also a number of privately-owned student rooms available.

So in reality, where am I likely to live?

Coming through Clearing can leave you with a lot of ‘what ifs’, but accommodation doesn’t have to be one of them. We want to get you clued up, so you can face the reality of accommodation without too much uncertainty.

Coventry University hold limited accommodation places in university-owned halls for students coming to us through Adjustment or Clearing, and these are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

Coventry University, CU London, CU Coventry and CU Scarborough also has a number of links with accommodation providers and will help you to secure accommodation.

Accommodation Spotlight

First up, you'll need to decide which of our accommodation choices is for you! Take a look at some of the excellent options that we've highlighted:

Callice Court is one of the most popular halls with Coventry University students.

Flats range in size from 3 to 10 residents, with classic ensuite and premium ensuite rooms to choose from. There is a shared common room on-site with a pool table and TV.

Situated just across the road from a major supermarket and just a short walk from the main campus, Callice Court is one of the best located student accommodation properties in Coventry.

Do I get a choice?

We have limited availability self-catered, catered or en suite options. All Coventry University owned halls include utility bills in the rental costs as standard, so that’s one less thing to think about. The average rental cost for Coventry University halls is £147 per week for a 43 weeks contract.

London accommodation prices start from £245-£350 per week and they are all self-catered, en suite rooms / studios.

But I don’t want to live in University Halls?

Of course, University halls aren’t always the first choice for everybody, but there are plenty of other options out there. Coventry University has plenty of private rentals available in the city. If this is your first time away from home, then halls are usually the best places to start because everyone’s in the same boat. But private rental can work well too, just make sure you’re clear on what you’re looking for and know your realistic budget before you start looking.

FutureLets, Coventry University’s own one-stop-shop for accommodation, organise house viewings throughout the summer for students looking for accommodation outside of University-owned properties. The Students’ Union Advice Centre is also open throughout the summer and offers housing advice sessions and advertising for those looking for a room, a house or a housemate. House viewings and tours give you the opportunity to meet other students in the same position. You can also visit our London Accomodation page to see a range of accomodation available in those areas.

Everything’s going to be alright…

Your accommodation is important, but not getting into the exact one you dreamed of won’t make or break your university experience, so don’t let it break you - I speak from experience here! Remember to try to stay positive if you have to change your accommodation plans come Results Day. One of the best things about our Coventry, London and Scarborough campuses is that wherever you live, you’re never too far from the city centre, or the Uni buildings.
