Manufacturing Engineering MEng/BEng (Hons)

This course runs in 2017/18.

This exciting course supports the well-publicised increase in national and global manufacturing activity. The course is designed and delivered in conjunction with Unipart Manufacturing Group and is integrated with industry.

Manufacturing Engineering in today’s competitive global environment has evolved from traditional impressions of the sector into a highly advanced cross-sector industry associated with tech products and innovative processes. Economic growth is delivered through manufacturing supply chain solutions, which require qualified Manufacturing Engineering graduates. A new and exciting era is upon us with an emphasis being placed on our need to increase our skills, knowledge levels and creativity to meet the challenges of the 21st Century international manufacturing environment.

This course is offered to provide learning opportunities that can enable you to join a community of Manufacturing Engineers capable of navigating the challenges of this increasingly complex landscape, always with practical real world application in mind inspired by Unipart’s world class experience. Successful completion of this course could set you on the pathway to becoming recognised as a Chartered Engineer (with further study).

You will be studying both in our Engineering and Computing Building and at the brand new Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME), based at Unipart’s Coventry site. All this offers a state-of-the-art learning environment, and throughout your studies, qualified educators will support you and staff direct from industry and from the University who have current hands-on experience of working in modern manufacturing environments.

If you choose this course you may benefit from:

  • a quality learning experience that is both interesting and challenging;
  • the University has strong employer links with world class companies such as Aston Martin, JLR, Prodrive, MIRA, Triumph Motorcycles, BAE Systems and Rolls Royce;
  • direct links to Unipart’s modern manufacturing facility and the Engineering and Computing building, which supports state-of-the-art facilities including a brand new Computerised Numeric Control (CNC) manufacturing centre, a composites manufacturing facility, an industry supported metrology (measurement) facility, a brand new engine test cell and a materials and joining facility;
  • assistance when you apply for an internship or placement at Unipart, or one of its partner companies, which can enable you to further develop important transferable and practical skills for the world of work and life situations.

Science and Technology: the essential underpinning science and technology necessary for today’s engineer.

Design and Manufacture: the innovative resolution of design and manufacture problems focused on commercially viable solutions.

Manufacturing Analysis: you will learn to use industry standard software to model, analyse and validate process and systems.

Sustainability: an ethical approach to work by protecting the best interests of life and the environment.

Practical: investigation and analysis using laboratory, workshop and computer-based techniques.

Our courses are based on a series of one or two hour lectures and further supported through our tutorial sessions with associated practice, laboratory and workshop exercises at both the Unipart centre and the University.

These exercises are  provide practical, hands-on project work, designed to help solve ‘real life’ manufacturing issues at Unipart’s manufacturing facility. Our innovative ‘Activity Led Learning’ approach has received national and international acclaim and is aimed at problem-based learning challenges at the start of each academic year, with an emphasis on knowledge transfer – knowledge practice – knowledge application.

In each course description you will find what is included in the fees, what is not, and if there are any possible additional extras, a projection of what the possible costs would be.

No Hidden Extras is part of our student promise, and by accepting your offer of a place with us, a Student Contract will be formed between you and the University.

The focus on preparing students for successful futures sets Coventry apart as a university. The key: developing and enhancing students' employability, and delivering a serious competitive advantage in the jobs market. At Coventry, that starts right from the beginning.

The Add+vantage modules teach a range of work experience and extra-curricular activities that are taken each year, and which broaden students knowledge and skills within a work focused environment. There is a very broad range of Add+vantage free-choice subject areas, and they are arranged in themes.

Centre for Global Engagement logoDid you know we help more students travel internationally than any other UK university according to data from the experts in higher education data and analysis, HESA?

In 2014/15, we were able to provide a total of 2,264 student experiences abroad that lasted at least five days, 73% of which were our own organised trips for undergraduates and 27% from postgraduate travel. Plus, we’ve been able to help more than 5,000 students spend time in other countries, from America to China, India and beyond.

Much of this travel is made possible through our Global Leaders Programme, which enables students to prepare for the challenges of the global employment market, as well as strengthening and developing their broader personal and professional skills.

The objectives of the programme, in which eligible undergraduate and postgraduate students can participate, is to provide practical career workshops and enable participants to experience different business cultures.
