The sport industry is a significant contributor to the global economy. Sport management graduates are in increasing demand owing to the growth, commercialisation and professionalisation of sport. If you want to be part of a growing and dynamic industry then this course may be for you.

The main aim of this course is to develop your knowledge and understanding of management with a particular focus on sport, and you will be involved in aspects of the sport industry from the first day you arrive on campus in Coventry.

If you choose this course you may benefit from:

  • the opportunity to apply for work placements or internships at local and regional companies;
  • experienced teaching staff who bring their professional and research expertise in to their teaching;
  • practical experience developed from field visits and volunteer opportunities within the sport industry that gives you a platform to apply your sport management theory;

Memberships shall be reviewed in accordance with the relevant body’s standard review process and subject to the University maintaining the same high standards of course delivery.

You will learn the principles and frameworks related to management from a sport perspective and understand how to apply such theory, analyse complex problems, construct arguments and form reasoned conclusions. You will develop your skills in research, analysis and problem solving, reasoned argument, decision-making, communication, information technology, teamwork and leadership.

A range of sport management subjects will form the key part of your studies, including: Introduction to Sport Business, Management, Strategy, Finance, Sport Marketing and Sponsorship, Project Management, Sport Economics, Corporate Social Responsibilities in Sport, and Sport PR and Media.

You will learn how this translates into practice on industry placements and voluntary projects throughout the course.

Your course will be based on a series of lectures and smaller seminars or workshops. Seminars and workshops are interactive and may involve hypothetical problem questions, case studies and the analysis of more theoretical issues. In addition, your personal tutor will review and discuss your progress with you and will be available for advice.

Centre for Global Engagement logoDid you know we help more students travel internationally than any other UK university according to data from the experts in higher education data and analysis, HESA?

In 2014/15, we were able to provide a total of 2,264 student experiences abroad that lasted at least five days, 73% of which were our own organised trips for undergraduates and 27% from postgraduate travel. Plus, we’ve been able to help more than 5,000 students spend time in other countries, from America to China, India and beyond.

Much of this travel is made possible through our Global Leaders Programme, which enables students to prepare for the challenges of the global employment market, as well as strengthening and developing their broader personal and professional skills.

The objectives of the programme, in which eligible undergraduate and postgraduate students can participate, is to provide practical career workshops and enable participants to experience different business cultures.
